Technology Irony

Oh what great things we humans have accomplished! Just look at the medical devices and instruments like the microscope that have enabled us to accomplish the most magnanimous human feat ever dreamed. We have actually be able through canned food, information about germs and diseases, common clean water systems and sanitation devices lengthened the average life span. It is truly a marvelous feat to have accomplished. But what a tower of babble our ingenuity has become. With our fountain of youth gadgets we have added mechanical monsters of time consumption. For most of these villains is the common everyday television. It is in every home at least once if not in more than one room. Watch only one hour of TV everyday and you have wasted 2.7 years of full twenty four hour a day television. Considering an average day waking day is about 16 hours you spend 4 years of your 65 year life just waking up watching TV all day then going to bed. If your personal lifestyle averages more like 2 hours a day that’s 8 years of your technology extended life wasted. In 8 years you could study to become a scientist that lengthens everyone’s lives so they can spend more and more time watching TV. So my advice is to get off your fat ass and write something or study a different language or just pray for that hour you use on the TV. Let God have those 4 years of your life. He definitely deserves them.

  • wow, mike, that is depressing as hell. I dont even watch almost any tv except the news, but the thought of wasting so much of my life even in concept makes me want to get it over with right now.

Actually, i think that people watch TV because they are afraid of death. TV is a way to avoid making choices, using our freedom. And we avoid using our freedom because we are all afraid of death.
